It was a surprise to me to be invited to attend the convocation. At first, I was very hesitant but as it came closer, I was both excited and anxious. What stands out the most was meeting new people from across the state who shared the same ideas of what church should be and what it can become. The people who gathered for the convocation embraced faith sharing and prayer in a variety of ways, so everyone felt welcome and belonged. The convocation brought me renewed hope about where my faith is going and how I can build the church through shared conversations and prayer.
During the convocation I was affirmed in my conviction that I am just a little fish in a little pond. I do not have to do big things just LOVE those in my pond. This is the calling: we must be a witness to GOD’s love for ALL to build community/church. Out of great LOVE given to us by God we become the calm reassuring presence of hope and grace the draw others to God.
For me the convocation was just the beginning of something GREAT! I left filled with joy, grace, and the renewed conviction that I AM a child of GOD. I continue to pray for the fruits of the Holy Spirit as I Love those around me especially those who are different and hard to like. The need for continual prayer to the Holy Spirit to advocate, guide and console as I evangelize and gather with my faith family around the Eucharistic table.
